Gettysburg Invitational

mmmm...35 degrees, rainy, and mud everywhere! Sounds like a party!

So on Saturday, the women’s cross-country team traveled up to Gettysburg, PA for a meet. The conditions were definitely not optimal. For one, the guys race was first, so they left a solid 6 inches of mud throughout a good chunk of the course, and it was cold and rainy as heck. Actually once I got out there, I thought it was a lot of fun. It was by far the biggest race I had ever been in. Our state meet in Alaska has only about a hundred runners, and this one had 289. We didn’t do too bad either, 9th out of 32 teams. Yeah, I’d say, overall it was my favorite race so far this year. ODACs are in two weeks so we’ll see what happens…

Ahhh….admissions people don’t shun me! Here marks the start to a new era of blogging..

On my honor, I will neither forget nor ignore my blogging duties.
Haha, actually, it should be pretty fun. We had a little blogging kids get together a week or so ago, and it inspired me (as well as reminded me) to pick things back up.
So whats been goin on in my life? mmm…mainly the typical stuff. Classes, homework, cross-country. Actually we had a pretty epic xc meet in Gettysburg this past weekend. More on that to come…

Okay…so after a few months of assuming the posts I made this summer were actually visible to the public, I discovered evidence to the contrary. Not that there was a lot there anyway, but I definitely felt a little lame seeing my blog with no posts on the university website. Whoops…..should have probably realized earlier. Oh well, things can only get better from here.

So about this blogging thing….

Uh…Hi! So this is my first attempt at blogging, and I…….feel a bit awkward. I am so not a blogging, twitter, facebook, myspace, computer always within arms reach type. How do people do it? Sharing my every waking thought with the entire internet world is just waaaaay to stressful for me. Its a good thing I’m pretty sure, considerably less than the entire internet world will be reading this. Still, not my idea of fun. But alas, the school was kind enough to ask me to be one of its “W&L 2013 freshman bloggers”, so here I go….

I’m just gonna do a little personal intro. My name is Molly Ortiz. I was born and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska. Not the frozen igloo Alaska, but the more southern, eastern, rainy, cruise-shippy alaska. My family consists of my parents, Dan and Lori, my little sis, Lucy, 16, and my little bro Sam, 13. See below…..

So….Virginia’s a long way from Ketchikan. I ended up deciding on W&L after I visited it last winter during a diversity weekend. I knew I wanted a small liberal arts school, but was mostly looking on the west coast. After visiting though, I fell in love with the beautiful campus, the surrounding scenery, and all of the incredible opportunities W&L provides. I’m gonna be able to run cross-country, and am planning on enjoying all the outdoor rec opportunities of the area. With less than a week till I arrive, I’m also getting really psyched for the warm weather! It’s raining in Ketchikan right now, as it has been for the last week….

It’s definitely gonna be a huge change, and I’m a little nervous. I’m really gonna miss my family. And my friends. And the general alaska vibe. Buuttttt, its time for a change, and Lexington, Virginia is definitely gonna be that.
